Too add to the beauty to your house, good window treatment is essential. To achieve this and to make the windows look attractive, window valances play a very crucial role.
There are plenty of options that are available when it comes to valances. They can either be used alone or can be combined with other window dressings such as shutters, sheers, blinds and drapes.
There are cases where the décor of the room may be casual or formal and in either of the case, a window valance would just be the right choice. You can either choose to use the ones that are made up of thin and soft cotton or the ones that are heavy. They can be made to portray a formal look or they can be hung free also.
The three most commonly used types of window valances are balloon valance, swag valance and pleated valance. Balloon Valance looks very similar to a balloon and they are made up of light weight cotton. They are found in various patterns, stripes and colors. This valance also consists of curtain rod where some amount of material is gathered on the top that forms a tube of cloth hanging from the rod and the balloons are stuffed with tissue paper.
The swag can be made either long or short. The style can be chosen depending on the need, and at the same time, if the window is wider and has curtains, you can choose to have window curtain valances. The Pleated Valances are considered to be the most formal ones that are available in the market and they are made up of heavy fabrics so that the shape remains unaltered. However, if you go in for lighter fabrics, a thick lining is essential.
Every single individual has the ability to make a window valance. There are some styles that do not require any kind of sewing and hence it eases the job of the individual. Also, make sure that the valance chosen matches the décor of the room.
