The robust increase in globalization has certainly put a question mark on the growth and decline of economies. Recession has hit the developed countries hard and in turn left sporadic changes on the consumer buying trends and customer buying behaviors.
At the very same time, fashion industry has been a victim of the liquidity crunch which has hijacked the global economies. Having said that, the streetwear industry had evolved better and is flourishing by leaps and bounds.
Because of the niche market, streetwear is quite difficult to describe, even by the people who wear it or follow the style trends. As it is depicted by the name, it is a casual wear influenced by ‘what’s happening down the streets’. Usually the young generation is inspired by the evolution of the casual wear which includes rugged jeans, cool looking tagless t shirts, caps and sneakers. The nostalgic 80s fashion has prompted the youngsters to use the same hip hop style which keeps on revolving after a regular interval of time. But this should be noticed here that we shouldn’t confuse the hip hop style which that of streetwear. Whereas some people says that it is somewhat influenced by the skateboarding style that had emerged in the late 20th century. The streetwear style triggers the young enthusiasts to show their individuality and come up with something that is quite unique and is different from the masses. The availability of the stocks is therefore limited to make sure that every customer is given a unique style according to his or her personality. The skateboard’s fashion was first adopted by Japanese before it could go to the international market.
The core elements of the alluring and trendy streetwear are, ironically, the vintage – style sneakers, retro designs and logos, pierced tongue and cheek logos and bold graphics.
