Living sprouts are very nutritive to skin by bringing it energy and order. Indeed, the power of living sprouts is discovered by the Chinese centuries ago.

The Chinese carried mung beans on their ships, sprouting these seeds to provide vitamin C and prevent scurvy in sailors. In their dormant state, chickpeas, mung beans and lentils are filled with enzyme inhibitors. The enzyme inhibitors make them difficult to digest even after cooking. Our bodies do not handle them well and therefore they may cause digestive problems easily.

But, when the seed sprout, the enzyme inhibitors are neutralized, making everything change. The living sprouts are rich in B vitamins and vitamin C. Meanwhile, enzymes themselves present in these embryonic plants improve the way your own body‘s enzymes function. B vitamins and vitamin C are essential for healthy skin by maintaining normal metabolism of skin cells.

Sprouted seeds of mung, chickpeas, unshelled sesame seeds, lentils, adzuki and buckwheat can be made to delicious salads, snacks and even breakfast. But, you should avoid eating alfalfa sprouts because it may inhibits some of our immune functions.

The other group of beauty food is low glycaemic index foods. The glycaemic index (GI) is a measure of how much a specific food will raise your blood glucose level – and how fast. High GI foods include bananas or bread, sugar, crisps and cereals, etc. Regular consume of these high GI foods may lead to skin degeneration. On the other hand, lower glycaemic foods protect your body from blood sugar disorders and insulin resistance syndrome. They also help stop skin from producing a lot of advanced glycosylation end products which may lead to wrinkle, sag and age. Low glycaemic carbohydrate foods can even reverse age signs such as fading wrinkles, firming your face, restoring contours, clearing deposits of cellulite.
